1st Team Fixtures + Results, Scorers and Match Reports (where submitted).

Sat. 8th May 2004

v

Horwich RMI SC Semi-Final  (a)  1 - 2  (ht.-)

scorers : Ogden

On a pitch that was not conducive to our passing game we struggled to match Horwich's more direct approach. A defensive error in the first few minutes meant we went one down and only some sound defensive work prevented us falling further behind in the first half. In the second half we slowly began to gain the initiative and with 20 mins to go Ogden forced home the ball to equalise. Although we looked more likely to score in the closing stages a swift raid from Horwich three minutes from the end gave them the victory. A disappointing end to a season that had begun badly but was ending with some of the best football we have played for a number of seasons. Well done to Mick and ALL the players
Sat. 1st May 2004

v

Little Lever AFC  SC Quarter Final   (h)  7 - 1  (ht.4-1)

scorers : Mottley2, Greenwood2, Martin, Stephenson, Spensley

Broughton cruise through to the Supplementary Cup Semi Finals. Little Lever could not get to grips with a lively Broughton side who scored regularly through the first half to go in at half time 5 - 1. (Greenwood 2, Mottley 2 and Stephenson). In the second half as Broughton eased up and with Little Lever playing for their pride Broughton only added another two goals through Martin and Spensley. An excellent display.

The Supplementary Cup (SC) first stage (3 matches) was on a League basis.
Top of each group plus best 3 second placed teams (out of the 5 groups) qualify for Quarter Finals, from which point (QF onwards) it's straight knock-out.

Tue. 27th Apr. 2004

v

Newman College  SC Match 3 (a)  3 - 0    (ht.2-0)

scorers : Wharton,Mottley,Stephenson

Broughton win assures a place in the Quarterfinal. Although taking some time to master the pitch and weather Broughton took control of the match after Wharton volleyed home a cross after 31 mins. and then Mottley made it two 3 mins later. The match remained scrappy in the second half and a powerful header from Stephenson in the 48th min. put the match well out of Newman's reach. Not one of our best performances but an effective one.
Tue. 13th Apr. 2004

v

Prairie Utd  SC Match 2 (a)  3 - 0    (ht.1-0)

scorers : Greenwood,Martin,Mottley

Broughton win against Premier division opposition in the Supplementary Cup. Prairie started more lively and it was only some sound defending and superb goalkeeping that keep them from scoring. On the stroke of half time a through ball from Bell was converted by Greenwood. In the second half Broughton dominated the match and after 60 mins Martin lobbed the goalkeeper from 30 yards. After 80 mins Mottley put the game beyond Prairie with a 30 yard drive that the goalkeeper could only watch go passed him. An excellent performance against strong opposition.
Tue. 6th Apr. 2004

v

Burnley GS  SC Match 1 (h)  2 - 1    (ht.2-1)

scorers : Martin2

Broughton win first match in Supplementary Cup Group. Although we quickly took control of the match, we went behind through an own goal after 20 mins. In the next ten minutes we scored twice through Martin to go in at half time with a 2 - 1 lead. The pattern was the same during the second half although having failed to score again meant we endured a few anxious minutes at the end of the match as a bad tempered Burnley side went all out for an equaliser.
Wed. 21st Apr. 2004

v

Old Mancunians  (h)  5 - 0   (ht.2-0)

scorers : Martin2,Greenwood,Spensley, Stephenson

We ended our league fixtures with a victory over the league leaders/champions with a great team performance. Broughton soon took control of the match and opened the scoring through Greenwood after 21 mins. Martin increased the lead after 34 mins. Broughton continued to dominate in the second half and Martin scored again after 53mins quickly followed by a far post header from Spensley in the 57 min. Stephenson completed the scoring just before full time. Roll on next season.
Sat. 27th Mar. 2004

v

Oldham Hulmeians  LAL CUP Rd 1 (h)  0 - 2   (ht.0-0)

scorers : -

Broughtons Cup run ends as Oldham take their chances in a closely contested game. The first half was keenly contested with few chances given away by two tight defences. This situation continued midway into the second half. Just as we were getting on top and having hit the post from a good opportunity Oldham put together an excellent move and opened the scoring. Although we battled hard we could not manage an equaliser and a late penalty sealed our fate and put us in the Supplementary Cup competition by way of a consolation.
Sat. 20th Mar. 2004

v

Astley Br/Sladians  (a)  0 - 1 (ht.0-0)

scorers : -

The worst winds of the winter battered us before and during the game which became a farce as keepers could'nt clear goalkicks out of the box. We played most of the football but only rarely threatened their goal. They in fact got the only goal, a speculative wind assisted effort, while our efforts unfortunately blew over or wide, although having got the ball in their net it was disallowed for offside. Very difficult to claim who was the better side or who deserved what, but they scored and we didn't.
Sat. 13th Mar. 2004

v

Newman College  LAL CUP Prelim Rd (h)  2 - 0   (ht.0-0)

scorers : Martin,Marlow

In this local derby there was a feisty first half with no quarter given and chances few and far between. Although Broughton held the territorial and possesion advantage Newman were lively on the counter attack. Broughton started the second period with more determination and were rewarded when Martin scored the first goal. Marlow added a second within ten mins of coming on as sub and Broughton dealt comfortably with any further challenge from the Newman attack to run out worthy winnners and progress into the next round.
Sat. 6th Mar. 2004

v

Burnley GS  (a)  2 - 1    (ht.1-0)

scorers : Mottley,Martin

We began the match brightly and within 2 mins Mottley had put us ahead after a good run by Wharton. During this half we played some of the best football of the season but failed to score from the many chances we created. Early in the second half Martin put us two up with a great shot. Although we still dominated the match Burnley got a goal back through an excellent cross and header and as we still failed to convert yet more chances the three points were always in the balance until the final whistle.
Sat. 21st Feb. 2004

v

Hindley Juniors  (a)  1 - 2   (ht.1-1)

scorers : Mottley

An evenly fought contest but we didn't score when we were on top. A Mottley equaliser brought us back on terms after conceding an early strike but we didn't push on to convert our chances and paid the price when they scored again with what proved to be the winner.
Sat. 14th Feb. 2004

v

Horwich RMI  (h)  3 - 2   (ht.2-2)

scorers : Mottley2,Martin

Horwich's bid for the top was halted by a Broughton fightback. Horwich started the match well scoring in the 1st and 10th minutes and could have easily increased this lead before Broughton settled down and came back into the match. Two great strikes from Mottley in the 30th and 43rd minutes meant that we went in at half time back on level terms. In between his goals Mottley had also hit the post from a free kick. Martin scored a great goal in the 53rd minute and although Horwich battled well Broughton had by now got on top and held onto the lead for an outstanding victory in what was an excellent game to watch.
Sat. 7th Feb. 2004

v

Hindley Juniors  (h)  2 - 2   (ht.0-0)

scorers : Ogden,Martin

The first half remained goalless as both defences held firm. Hindley eventually forced a goal after 60 mins and Broughton fought hard for an equaliser. Just when it seemed that luck was against us Ogden chased a lost cause and scored an excellent goal from a very narrow angle. Two minutes later Martin finished of the best move of the match for Broughton to take the lead. Just as it seemed we were going to take all the points we equalised for Hindley through an unfortunate own goal in the 88 min.
Sat. 24th Jan. 2004

v

Bolton Ambassadors  (a)  1 - 0   (ht.1-0)

scorers : Mottley

We returned to winning ways after starting the match lively and 12 mins in Mottley won a penalty which he converted himself. We continued to dominate but failed to take the chances we got, leaving us only one up at half time. Bolton came more into the game in the second half and we could not finish the game off, but a resolute defence kept another clean sheet and we came away with all the points.
Sat. 17th Jan. 2004

v

Burnley GS  (h)  1 - 1    (ht.0-1)

scorers : Mottley

The first half was keenly contested affair with the only goal from Burnley who scored a break away goal following our corner. Five minutes into the second half a smartly taken goal from Mottley equalised the match. We pressed hard for the remainder of the match but could not get the winner, although we came close on a number of occasions.
Sat. 10th Jan. 2004

v

Oldham Hulmeians  (a)  0 - 1   (ht.-)

scorers : -

After six wins in a row we narrowly lost at Oldham to the only goal of the match. After Belly had taken half the team on a tour of Oldham it took us the first quarter of a hour to settle down. We were unlucky not to take the lead when Martin rounded the goalkeeper only to see his shot cleared of the line. Just before half time Oldham scored the only goal of the match. The second half was dominated by both defences with goalkeeper Care in excellent form. A strong rally from Broughton towards the end failed to bring an equaliser.
Sat. 3rd Jan. 2004

v

Bolton Wyresdale  (h)  4 - 1  (ht.3-0)

scorers : Spensley2,Elgee,Martin

Ten minutes into the match a glancing header by Spensley from a corner opened the scoring. After half an hour a silly push in the area meant we went further ahead as Elgee converted the resultant penalty. 5 mins later a good strike by Martin from the egde of the box gave us a three goal lead at half time. Wyresdale came back strongly after half time and pulled one back from a corner. We weathered the comeback and Spensley sealed the victory 5 mins from the end when he made space in the area to finish left footed.
Sat. 20th Dec. 2003

v

Thornleigh  (a)  2 - 0  (ht.1-0)

scorers : Mottley2

Another fine performance on a heavy pitch. We controlled the midfield and created a string of opportunities for the forwards, and could've won by a bigger margin. Another clean sheet for the keeper and defence to be proud of.
Sat. 13th Dec. 2003

v

Accrington Ams  (h)  4 - 0   (ht.1-0)

scorers : Mottley,Martin,Spensley,Wharton

After a fairly even first half, in which a wonder run and strike from Mottley was all that separated the teams, we took command in the second period and created a number of chances. Martin increased our lead with a crisp strike after a sharp turn. Spensley assured the win with a looping header after a great run and cross. Finally we sealed a good win when a terrific passing movement, starting from inside our half, ended with Wharton gathering a pass just inside the box and slotting home a delightful finish to a fine move.
Sat. 6th Dec. 2003

v

Chorley Motors  (h)  4 - 0  (ht.3-0)

scorers : Marlow3,Elgee

Chorley opened brightly but after ten minutes, with our first meaningful attack, a delightful cross from Martin was headed home at the near post by Marlow. 15 mins later he extended the lead and just before half time the goalkeeper failed to deal with a long range shot from Elgee. In the second half Chorley attacked strongly but our defence held them well and after 60 mins Marlow latched onto a through ball to score his third and secure the game.
Sat. 22nd Nov. 2003

v

Mostonians  (h)  3 - 2  (ht.2-2)

scorers : Marlow3

NB: Today ALL 4 teams won

Mostonians came to Broughton expecting to go to the top of the league, but returned home disappointed. After 15 mins a ball from Elgee put Marlow through to open our scoring, two mins later we repeated this move and went two up. However this lead was quickly reduced by Mostonians as they scored with a header from a corner. Just before half time Mostonians equalised as a shot from the edge of the area evaded everyone. Quarter of an hour into the second half Marlow completed a hat trick when his header from a corner was helped into the goal by a defender. Moston piled on the pressure but we dealt well with all they could throw at us.
Sat. 15th Nov. 2003

v

Walshaw SC  (a)  2 - 0   (ht.1-0)

scorers : Mottley2

After a good performance last week we were playing Walshaw a high flying and high scoring side. In the first half we played up the slope and against the wind and the defence held firm against all that Walshaw could throw at us and just before half time Mottley scored from the edge of the penalty area. In the second half we dominated play and had a goal disallowed through a dubious offside. However we continued to press forward and with 15 minutes to go Mottley scored his second of the afternoon. A good win with everyone contributing.
Sat. 8th Nov. 2003

v

Horwich RMI  (a)  0 - 1  (ht.0-1)

scorers : -

After playing the second in the league last week we went to Horwich to play the top and were unlucky to return with no points. The match was dominated by both defences with the only goal being scored after 30 mins when the Horwich centre forward got behind our defence and lobbed the goalkeeper. Another good performance for no return. "It's a funny old game" someone once said.
Sat. 1st Nov. 2003

v

Old Mancunians  (a)  1 - 3 (ht.0-2)

scorers : Stephenson

It took us half an hour to get to grips with a high flying Old Mancunian side and in that time they had gone two ahead. Their first goal came when a bobbling ball in the penalty area fell to an Old Mancunians player, their second was an overhead bicycle kick from the centre half, the celebration said it all. For the next half hour we matched their play missed a couple of chances and then a moments lapse at a corner saw them go further ahead. From that point we took control of the match and although we pulled one back through a Stephenson penalty a mixture of our lack of composure, good goalkeeping and their good fortune meant we could not add to our score.
Sat. 25th Oct. 2003

v

Bolton Ambassadors  (h)  1 - 0 (ht.1-0)

scorers : Elgee

First win of the season. A well deserved victory, and not before time, which lifted us off the bottom of the league. It was a workman-like performance with the defence giving little away but without the inspiration we desperate needed to score more goals. The match was settled when Elgee scored from a free kick just before half time and after that we failed to turn our domination into goals.
Sat. 11th Oct. 2003

v

Oldham Hulmeians (h) 1 - 3 (ht.0-1)

scorers : Martin

This weeks performance was much improved on the last two weeks as we competed well and with a little more composure in front of goal could have won the match. The first half was even and a lucky deflection gave Oldham the chance to score. The second half belonged to Broughton but a long range shot gave Oldham a two goal advantage before a brilliant solo effort from Martin reduced the arrears. We pressed hard for the equaliser, which with little luck we may have got, but this left the opportunity for a late Oldham breakaway goal.
Sat. 4th Oct. 2003

v

Bolton Wyresdale   (a)  0 - 6 (ht.0-3)

scorers : -

Who said we could not play as badly as last week ?? After a bright start when we again failed to turn domination into goals we got caught on the break and after this never really got back into the match. Two late goals after we lost our goal keeper did nothing for our goal difference.
Sat. 27th Sep. 2003

v

Chorley Motors  (a)  2 - 7 (ht.1-2)

scorers : Wharton,Mason

In the first half after conceding a careless early goal we took control of the game but poor finishing meant that we only scored one goal through Wharton. In the second half we again dominated the match but as the game progressed we left ourselves vulnerable to break away attacks and Chorley seemed to take advantage with every attack they had, whilst we only scored once more through Mason.
Sat. 20th Sep. 2003

v

Thornleigh  (h)  2 - 2  (ht.0-2)

scorers : Martin,Elgee

We were the better side over 90 mins but an own goal and a charged down goal clearance meant we went in at half time two goals down. In the second half we continued to dominate the match and after a good move from Spensley, Martin opened the scoring. With 15 minutes to go Elgee equalised from a free kick. Thornleigh managed to hold out until full time and we had to settle for another draw. With a little more composure in front of goal we would have gained an easy victory.
Sat. 13th Sep. 2003

v

Accrington Ams (a) 2 - 2 (ht.1-1)

scorers : Patel,Stephenson

We got away to a good start when Farook Patel scored after 5 mins. However as we struggled to contain a tall forward line they equalised from a corner shortly afterwards. As we managed to starve their forwards of any service we got on top and were unlucky not to take the lead before half time. We dominated the second half but fell behind half way through due to a defensive mistake and it took us until the 80th min before we equalised through Peter Stephenson. Accrington held on until full time and we went away disappointed with the draw.
Sat. 6th Sep. 2003

v

Remyca Utd (h) 0 - 4 (ht.0-3) LFA Cup Rd1

scorers : -

We were beaten by a strong and mobile side who dominated the first half and went three goals ahead, albeit including two defensive errors. After positional changes the team fought back well and the second half was much more even with their fourth goal again being a gift. 'No-shows' gave the manager the 'opportunity' to taste first team football, an 'experience' he does not wish to repeat.
Sat. 30th Aug. 2003

v

Astley Br/Sladians   (h)  0 - 0 (ht.0-0)

scorers : -

We fielded a side with many young and inexperienced players but they competed well for the full 90 minutes. Both defences dominated the game and some great saves from Richard Care resulted in us earning our first point of the season.
Sat. 23rd Aug. 2003

v

Mostonians  (a)  1 - 4 (ht.1-1)

scorers : Davies

A poor last 20 mins cost us at least a share of the points. They took the lead early on and we equalised before HT. Then 3 goals by them in the last 20 when we defended badly as a team meant we returned home pointless.
Sat. 16th Aug. 2003

v

Walshaw SC  (h)  1 - 2   (ht.1-2)

scorers : Stephenson

Although preparation for the match was a little fraught the team played well and it was dissappointing that we did not at least get a point. We started slowly, as the team got used to playing together, and fell two goals behind. However as the half progressed we started to dominate the game and scored after half an hour through a Stephenson penalty. Although both sides tired towards the end of the match we had much more of the play and were unlucky not to add to our score.

2nd Team Fixtures + Results, Scorers and Match Reports (where submitted).

Tue. 20th Apr. 2004

v

Thornleigh (a)  3 - 4    (ht.3-2)

scorers : Eccles2,Craig

After leading 3-2 at half time with one goal disallowed and having had a penalty saved this was a bitter pill to swallow. A brave performance with a weakend team reduced to ten-men through injury and unavailability. Well done lads!
Sat. 17th Apr. 2004

v

Burnley GS  (a)  3 - 2    (ht.1-2)

scorers : Harford2,Martin

A well deserved win after a slow start and going in trailing at half time we put on a great show in the second half to secure the points.
Sat. 27th Mar. 2004

v

Lymm CUP Rd 1 (a)  2 - 3  (ht.1-2)

scorers : Ogden,Harford

We played extremely well against a team from division above and were very disappointed to lose. Two bad decisions left us feeling hard done by after a long trip and a terrific team performance. Their winner coming in the last 5 mins.
Sat. 20th Mar. 2004

v

Little Lever SC (a)  0 - 4  (ht.0-1)

scorers : -

A really poor result on a poor pitch in joke weather, which they coped with better than us. A bad refereeing decision gifted them the first just before half time then in the second half we made too many defensive errors which gave us too much of a deficit to claw back.
Sat. 6th Mar. 2004

v

Hayward (h)  4 - 0    (ht.1-0)

scorers : Szmitt,Davies2,Marlow

First game back after nearly two months off and didn't it show. A scrappy non eventful first half with hardly two passes put together. However a swirling corner had their keeper caught in no mans land and the ball sailed straight in to the back of the net, 1-0. Second half - A different team, Sharpy introduced at left back and Seddy pushed up to left wing and we were playing the ball around like we know we can, up stepped Phil Davis again with a typical stikers goal. Some more good passing and moving down the wings and through the middle, we ripped the opponents to pieces. Nigel got the third on his debut and Phil Davis rounded it off 4-0. Man of the Match, close one but ADAM did not put a foot wrong all day at right back - well done.
Sat. 3rd Jan. 2004

v

Hesketh Casuals (a)  1 - 2   (ht.1-1)

scorers : Eccles

First half saw some great one touch football from both sides and a pretty even half, a great move by Pidge when he jinks past their centre half on the right hand side of the box, cut in and smashed a great drive in to the top right corner. We got caught dwelling on the ball in our own box 1-1. We then got attacked for a good ten mins Andy Davis in nets pulling off 5 or 6 great saves to keep us in the match. Second half - A hard working performance from Broughton with no finish, then we got caught with 15 mins to go, a great finish by Hesketh to take the lead. A few more good saves from Andy kept the score respectful but too many of our lads were still chomping on mince pies and chrissy pud.
Sat. 20th Dec. 2003

v

Bolton Wyresdale (h)  0 - 2  (ht.0-1)

scorers : -

First time this season we've failed to score. Fielding a weakend team against league leaders was always going to make for a difficult game and we didn't help ourselves by gifting them the first goal. We pressed them back in the second half and went close plenty of times but were hit on the break and had to admit defeat to a better team.
Sat. 6th Dec. 2003

v

Astley Br. Sladians  (a)  2 - 2  (ht.1-2)

scorers : Eccles,Davies

We went 0-2 down after 20 mins but played ourselves back into the game. Eccles pulled one back and Davies levelled in the 2nd half. Although we pressed for the winner it was not to be and we were left feeling we'd dropped points against a team that on recent form we should be capable of beating, but that's footy.
Sat. 29th Nov. 2003

v

Bolton Lads Club  (h)  2 - 0   (ht.2-0)

scorers : Eccles2

They had a few good moves but our lads were strong and worked as a team. A great performance from Fenton at centre half enabled us to push forward confidently. Some of the best passing and moving since the start of the season. 5 mins in to the game and Eccles turned 2 players and slipped it under the keeper, 15 mins later he added to that when from a Barry cross he volleyed in to the top corner. We then missed several chances during 2nd half in which they never looked like scoring.
Sat. 22nd Nov. 2003

v

Bolton Lads Club  (a)  5 - 2  (ht.3-1)

scorers : A.Alston2,Davies,Barry,Seddon

NB: Today ALL 4 teams won

Thoroughly deserved win a great team performance in which we dominated the game throughout and scored at regular intervals.

Sat. 8th Nov. 2003

v

Little Lever SC   (h)  2 - 3 (ht.2-1)

scorers : Eccles,A.Alston

After a great start and reaching 2-0 up we seemed to relax too much, lost the initiative and eventually the game. Disappointing that we put in such a lack lustre second half performance.

We were 0-1 down at half-time after a poor start to the game. But we put in a dominating performance in the second period to run out worthy winners.

Some defensive lapses in concentration made things very difficult for us. In the end we felt very dissappointed not to have secured a victory.

Oldham Hulmeians   (h)  1 - 3 (ht.1-1)

v

Newman College  (a)  5 - 4 (ht.2-3)

scorers : Eccles2,Glennister,Thomas,Sharp

What a start to the season! We started the game poorly and were overrun, Glennister pulled one back, and we were glad to be only 1-3 down, when in the 44th minute Pidge scored his first and we went in at HT 2-3 down and a lot happier than them. This spurred us on to completely domininate the 2nd half to the same degree they did in the first, and when Wayne (goalie) equalised (3-3) with a boomer from his own box we went on to take the lead when Pidge neatly rounded the keeper for his 2nd. They equalised and a draw looked likely until Sharpy scored the winner in the 88th min.

Sat. 24th Apr. 2004

v

O.Boltonians 'B'   (a)  2 - 1  (ht.1-1)

scorers : Ssebatta 2

A great game to close the season with. Two evenly matched sides going all out to win. We took the lead when Ben clipped a cross over that eluded everyone even their keeper. They equalised with a harsh penalty award to make it level at half-time. With both sides creating and missing chances ever dangerous Ben sealed the win when he broke free down the right and drilled a cross shot that took a deflection before ending up in the net. So we finish the season in 4th position in the league table, winning more games than losing and with a positive goal difference, all this achieved after losing 5 out of the first 6 games of the season. Credit to manager Dougie Birch and all the squad.

v

Broughton Ams 'B'   (h)  2 - 1 (ht.1-0)

scorers : Lafferty,Grundy

@  Myerscough Not as good a quality match as last Saturday's was between these sides but another close tense affair played in a spoiling stiff breeze. After a fairly even opening 15 minutes it was the 3rds who scored first when a through ball from McHugh was controlled by Lafferty and from just inside the box his turn and well placed shot into the corner gave the keeper no chance. Goal attempts were at a premium and both sides missed further half chances before half time. Early in the second half the 4ths scored the equaliser when G.Smith leapt on a defensive error to control the ball and neatly guide it past the advancing keeper. Once again both sides had openings but it was Grundy who scored the winner for the 3rds when his high swirling cross evaded the keeper and the defence when flying into the net. The 4ths pressed hard but the 3rd team defence were up to the task to secure the win and leave honours even for the season, after two very competietive enjoyable matches between the teams.

v

Broughton Ams 'B'   (a)  2 - 3 (ht.0-0)

scorers : I.Smith,Lafferty

@  Myerscough After a tight even first half the match exploded in the second with 5 goals and numerous missed chances to please a large crowd. Ian Smith scored for the 'A' team when he lobbed the keeper in the first attack of the second half and then Keen equalised within 2 minutes with a fine header from a free-kick. A nice 'B' team move saw an effort flash across to Graham Smith who placed a good shot past the keeper to put the B's ahead. The 3rds got on top and missed several good chances but finally got the equaliser they deserved when Lafferty scored with a firm header from Majors well flighted free-kick. Both teams did create more chances but the 3rds were left rueing their missed opportunities when they were caught out in the last 5 minutes as a cross flew to Graham Smith again who buried the chance from just beyond the penalty spot to send the 4th team delirious with the points and bragging rights - at least for a week.

v

Bolton Wyresdale 'A' CUP Rd 1 (h) 1 - 2 (ht.0-1)

scorers : Lafferty

Conceded a needless penalty in the first half when we were well on top, this led to us playing catch-up which we managed to achieve midway thru the 2nd half. We continued to dominate but failed to score when we should've. Into extra-time, which was Golden Goal format, and we conceded/scored an own goal in the 2nd period to lose the tie and be disappointingly knocked out of the cup at the first hurdle.

v

Radcliffe Ams 'A' (h) 3 - 0  (ht.0-0)

scorers : Ssebatta,Shirley,Heaton

Our first clean sheet of the season at only the 19th attempt! Playing in a howling gale, this was never going to be pretty. Choosing to play into the wind in the first half, we were happy to go in level at half time, Rich G coming closest to breaking the deadlock for us with a rasping 25 yarder coming back off the crossbar and a couple of acrobatic efforts narrowly missing the target. Into the second half we started to apply more pressure and it paid off when Ben scored his first goal for the Club with a neat finish into the bottom corner from 18 yards. The second soon followed, Simon R crossing to the back post for Mark S to power his header home. We wrapped up the win late on when Mick scored from close range to give us the margin of victory we deserved.

v

Horwich RMI 'A'   (a)  2 - 1 (ht.2-1)

scorers : Lafferty,O.Mills

A return to winning ways after last week's hiccup, another good solid perfermonce if slightly stuttering in it's fluency. Lafferty poached a goal after 15 mins but they equalised within 10 mins. We continued to camp in their half but couldn't come up with the final killer pass. We did regain the lead to go in at half time ahead after Mills blasted a free kick home from 20 yards. In the second half we continued with our territorial advantage despite playing into the wind and another sound defensive display meant Seddon in goals had little work to do, this allowed us to complete the victory with few alarms.
Sat. 21st Feb. 2004

v

O.Blackburnians 'C'   (h)  1 - 4  (ht.1-1)

scorers : Rawsthorn

We totally dominated the early part of the game but went a goal behind after a defensive blunder. We got the equaliser we deserved but were still disappointed to be only level at half time. They scored out of nothing in the first minutes of the 2nd half and then repelled all our efforts to reply. Although we still dominated possesion and territory some solid defence from them and our poor finishing from us made life difficult and to rub salt into the wounds they showed us how to make the most of your chances then we presented them with a fourth. To leave us feeling hard done by but with only ourselves to blame.
Sat. 14th Feb. 2004

v

Burnley GS 'A'   (a)  4 - 1 (ht.2-0)

scorers : Rawsthorn2,Shirley,McHugh

Totally dominant performance that was only spoilt because we conceded a goal. Our lively forwards were always a threat and our defence was always (almost) in command. We scored early on with another calm finish from Shirley, then Ssebatta set-up Rawsthorn for the second, he poached another on the hour before Jim powered in a fourth to complete our scoring.
Sat. 7th Feb. 2004

v

Rossendale Ams 'B' (h>a) 2 - 1 (ht.1-0)

scorers : Rawsthorn,Shirley

A great contest on a heavy pitch, should've been our home match but we played away to get the match in and were rewarded with a good win. We took the initiative and led mid way through the first half when Rawsthorn turned and shot smartly after good through ball from Swan. It was even in the second half till we produced the move of the match involving four or five players and twice that number of passes, the result of this great movement saw the ball find it's way to Shirley who coolly slotted it past the keeper. We deserved to win for that move alone. Seddon made a couple of excellent saves as they pulled one back and did pressure us for the last 10 mins - but we held on to win.
Sat. 17th Jan. 2004

v

Accrington Ams 'B'   (a)  1 - 1  (ht.1-0)

scorers : Lafferty

A game of few chances at either end. Our disappointment was that they equalised in the last 10 mins, without ever having put us under any pressure, with a freak goal to cancel out our first-half, well worked, opener. We didn't make the most of our first half supremacy.
Sat. 3rd Jan. 2004

v

O.Blackburnians 'B' (a) 2 - 1 (ht.2-1)

scorers : Lafferty,Rawsthorn

Against the team who would've gone top of the league, had they beat us, we started excellently. Playing some great football creating several chances and generally dominating the game. When Rawsthorne put us 2-0 up with a tidy finish we were coasting. They hit us with a sucker punch just before half time to half the deficit. They then pressed hard in the second half but the defence and goalkeeper Seddon dealt with all they had to offer and we deservedly hung on to win.
Sat. 20th Dec. 2003

v

Little Lever SC 'B'   (h)  2 - 3 (ht.0-1)

scorers : Lafferty,Swan

They sit at the top of the table and showed why for an hour when we were pushed back and found ourselves 3 down with no reason to complain. However, either them relaxing or our pride meant that we started to get to grips with them and pulled a goal back then suddenly we camped in their half for the last quarter of the game and scored another. They hung on and probably deserved to but we eventually came out of the match with some credit.
Sat. 6th Dec. 2003

v

Thornleigh 'B'   (h)  2 - 2 (ht.1-1)

scorers : O.Mills,Lafferty

Against a physical side we matched them in every area and created many more chances than them, although they did put us under pressure and had the territorial advantage for periods. Mills floated in a lovely first goal but this was cancelled out by half time. We then missed a penalty (our 3rd miss out of 3 this season) and were made to pay when they took the lead midway thru the 2nd half. However we kept creating chances and got a second penalty which was at last converted. Although we had a couple more half chances before the end a draw was probably a fair result.
Sat. 22nd Nov. 2003

v

Horwich RMI 'A' (h) 5 - 1 (ht.2-0)

scorers : Craig2,Major,McHugh,Swan

NB: Today ALL 4 teams won

No mistakes this week at either end meant we scored some fine goals and denied them with a fine professional all round team effort, and some great goals to get what we deserved.
Sat. 15th Nov. 2003

v

O.Blackburnians 'C'   (a)  1 - 6 (ht.1-1)

scorers : Seddon

After an even opening period we were rocked by a disputed penalty, then we missed a penalty of our own and then went further behind. They then pressed on to finish the game stronger. On such moments do games turn.
Sat. 8th Nov. 2003

v

Burnley GS 'A' (h) 4 - 1 (ht.1-0)

scorers : Grundy,Lafferty,Swan,Seddon

After a poor first 10 mins of the match we put in a superb performance where we were creative and full of vitality. All our good approach work was matched with some fine finishing to earn the result we deserved.
Sat. 1st Nov. 2003

v

Rossendale Ams 'B'   (a)  1 - 1 (ht.1-0)

scorers : McHugh

A fine all-round team performance that had youth and experience both contributing to a fine match. We had the better chances and with some composure in front of goal could've extended our half time 1-0 lead. They equalised with 15 mins left and both sides had further chances before the end.
Sat. 11th Oct. 2003

v

Accrington Ams 'B'   (h)  1 - 3 (ht.1-0)

scorers : Lafferty

We dominated for 70 mins and missed a penalty on the hour which would've given us a 2-0 lead. They finished stronger and scored 3 in the last 20 mins to deny us any points.
Sat. 4th Oct. 2003

v

Radcliffe Ams 'A' (a) 0 - 1 (ht.0-1)

scorers :

A very even contest saw them take the lead after a disasterous, for us, series of mis-kicks and defensive blunders led to our defender having a clearance charged down and the ricochet ending up in the net. We had several spells of sustained pressure but could not find the crucial goal.
Sat. 27th Sep. 2003

v

O.Blackburnians 'B'   (h)  1 - 3 (ht.0-1)

scorers : R.Mills

They took the lead after 20 mins at a time when we were on top. After that it was a very even game and either side could or should've scored. The all important 2nd goal went to them again after a sustained period of Broughton pressure brought no reward, they added a 3rd but we got the goal we had worked for when Dick Mills slotted home after a fine pasing move, all too late.
Sat. 20th Sep. 2003

v

Little Lever SC 'B' (a) 1 - 3 (ht.1-1)

scorers : Swan

A battling performance against a lively team saw us take an early lead then get pegged back before HT thru a dubious penalty. They started 2nd half brighter and scored in the first few mins to take the lead. Although we continued to contest all areas they sealed our fate in the last few mins with another goal when we were down to 10 men thru injuries.
Sat. 13th Sep. 2003

v

O.Boltonians 'B'   (h)  3 - 1 (ht.0-0)

scorers : Shirley,Swan,O.Mills

Our performance in the first half was disrupted by a couple of injuries that required subs to be used although we did create the most chances. We took the lead early in the second half and added a second within another ten mins. We slackened our grip on the game and they pulled one back but a late chip over the keeper from Mills sealed a deserved win, that saw all 3 scorers on target for the first time in a Broughton shirt.
Sat. 6th Sep. 2003

v

Thornleigh 'B'  (a)  1 - 3 (ht.1-1)

scorers : Dean

Playing with only 10 men we ran them close and it was only in the last 20 they got clear of us and we couldn't pull it back.

v

Burnley GS 'A'   (h)  6 - 7 (ht.3-3)

scorers : G.Smith4,Roberts2

Offensively we were superb, again, with our two forwards sharing six goals. However our defensive frailties let us down. Needing only a point to avoid the bottom slot and a win to hoist us up to 10th we came from three goals down to level by half time and matched them goal for goal till injury time when we conceded another goal and as we kicked off the full time whistle went to deny us any chance of a come back. A disappointing end to a season in which we had improved significantly since xmas. The highlights being the demolition of the league champs and our win against the 3rds.
Sat. 24th Apr. 2004

v

Thornleigh 'B'   (h)  5 - 1 (ht.3-0)

scorers : G.Smith 5

Back to a full strength team and it showed. We dominated from the start and once Graham Smith found he could easily outpace their pedestrian defence we seemed to score at regular intervals, well he did anyway. A virtuoso performance with some clinical finishing saw him scoring all five goals to lift us off the bottom for the first time this year.
Tue. 20th Apr. 2004

v

O.Boltonians 'B'   (a)  3 - 9 (ht.1-4)

scorers : Roberts2,G.Smith

We fielded a severly weakened team due to injuries and unavailability, with many players forced to play out of position. The scoreline did not reflect the performance and credit to all the players for battling to the end even when reduced to 9 men with over half an hour to go due to a double injury. Very disappointing to lose by such a margin after encouraging performances and results in recent games.

scorers : Anderton, OG

A good battling team display, first half we were a little disappointing in possesion but showed tremendous spirit and work rate to out battle a big, strong, physical side. Radcliffe took the lead in the opening 15mins with a well taken goal. The rest of the half both teams cancelled each other out with very little goalmouth action mainly due to strong defensive displays from both teams. We managed to grab an equiliser just before the break, Paul Anderton following up from a good save to poke the ball home. In the second half the game opened up, and we started to carve out numerous chances, with twenty minutes to go we took the lead when following a great save, Graeme Smith followed up to drill across the face of goal, only for the keeper to inadvertedly turn the ball into his own net. Mark Aquilina made a couple of good saves from one on ones before Radcliffe equalised with a looping header.

v

Burnley GS 'A'   CUP Rd 2 (a)  3 - 4 (ht.1-1)

v

Accrington Ams 'B'   (h)  4 - 3 (ht.1-2)

scorers : Terry,Smith2,Atkinson

After conceding a goal within the first few minutes we settled down and started to play some good football. We equalised after about 20 minutes with a scrambled goal from a well taken free kick. We then conceded another sloppy goal resulting in our goalkeeper having to be substituted. We equalised early in the second half, then took the lead from a good header from a corner kick. Then within minutes from the kick-off we let in another goal. But after that we regained the lead and held on to record a much needed win.

Horwich RMI 'A'   (h)  3 - 3 (ht.2-2)

scorers : Graham3

We got off to a good start and scored within the first ten minutes, then doubled our lead with a well taken header after some excellent one touch football. We then took our foot off the pedal and allowed them to get back into the game as they scored twice before half time. We had them on the defensive again in the second half and scored after 20 minutes with another well taken header. Then with two minutes to go they scored with a looping header (which if the goals were straight and normal height would not have gone in) !!

scorers : Roberts

After going down to a very early goal we regained composure to equalise with a well taken shot from the 18 yard box. After that we had them on the defensive and were unlucky not to score again after carving out a couple of good chances. With about 10 minutes to go to half time we conceded another goal. The second half was similar to the first half with them coming on strong to start, with us getting back on top of them for a while. With 20 minutes to go they scored again, after that it was 50-50 possession. At the end I think we felt unlucky not to come out with a draw.

After last weeks poor show here we were again, against top of the league, different story this week though. We poured all lasts weeks frustrations into a superb team effort and rocked them back from the start, thoroughly deserving our victory. Never in doubt was it ?

Little Lever SC 'B' (a) 1 - 6 (ht.0-3)

scorers : Roberts

Our worst performance of the season by far albeit against the league leaders. They got off to a good confident start and we were still in our cars. We had to then chase the game but never looked likely to claw back the early goals they scored.

O.Boltonians 'B'   (h)  3 - 5 (ht.3-3)

scorers : Roberts2,Bradshaw

A real battling display saw us claw our way back into the game to be level at half time. However we conceded two second half goals and couldn't add to our tally despite some good approach work.

A bad defeat even with no recognised keeper.

That first win of the season still eludes us as we maintain our status as draw specialists.

v

O.Blackburnians 'C' (h) 1 - 1 (ht.1-0)

scorers : Roberts

After starting brightly, dominating the 1st half and getting ahead. We could not take advantage of our long spells on top and paid the price when they managed to equalise in the 2nd half to deny us a deserved win.

Burnley GS 'A'   (a)  0 - 2 (ht.0-1)

Our failure to score when we created the chances cost us dearly in the end.

v

Rossendale Ams 'B' (h) 2 - 2 (ht.2-0)

scorers : Johnson2

We stormed into a 2-0 lead and all looked comfortable at half time. The second half was fairly even but we allowed them to score 2 soft goals and deny us all the points.

v

Accrington Ams 'B'   (a)  0 - 1 (ht.0-0)

With one of "their" blokes reffing, he did his best, but we didn't get the important decisions given to us and it cost us at least a share of the points.
