A game opposition who certainly made the lads work hard for their spoils. A ropey first 10 minutes as we shook off the Christmas break saw us go behind and then trade goals until half time as we struggled to take care of the ball. But we came out second half and took better control of the game and the ball, letting our class tell in the final third. Hitting the woodwork 3 times, it could’ve been a couple more but satisfying to take care of business in the end. A brace for talisman Belly, a tidy finish from a set play from Ollie Jones, Charles and Jonny finishing up nice moves and skipper Kev getting on the end of a knock down saw us (fairly) comfortably take it home in the end. Onwards and upwards! |

Burscough Dynamo (h) 3 - 2 (ht.2-2) scorers : J. Long, J. Gough, M. Mathais A dogged 3 points for us against a gritty Burscough Dynamo, on a pitch that was suspect at best, swamp at worst. Jack Long gave the boys the lead with a cultured finish between the keepers legs after an early spell of dominance. We somehow appeared to be heading into half time 2-1 down after 2 swift breakaways against us until captain Jonny Gough swept home a lovely volley after a delightful clip towards the back post from senior statesman of the side Chris McCrudden, who rolled back the years yesterday and was RIGHTFULLY voted second best player on the pitch by his teammates at full time. The message at half time was simple. If we do our job and press the ball off it, we will win the game and following another spell of aggressive control, little Mikey Mathias delivered with a clean finish across the keeper to give us the lead back. 30 minutes of dogged determination, big tackles and pure hard work saw us see the game out and pick up a big 3 points! We visit Burscough again in the cup in a fortnight and expect another battle ! Undefeated in 2026 - onward we go. |

Burscough Dynamo (a) 4 - 4 (lost 1-3 on pens) scorers : J. Charlson, B. Fry, L. Bell, O. Jones GUILDHALL CUP Rd 2 An instant classic for the neutral, a gut punch for the Broughton boys. After taking an early lead, 2 deflected goals put us behind. We fought back to level before the break, and again took the lead after a spell of dominance coming out of the half time break. 2 sloppy goals to concede saw us on the brink of exit before a last minute equaliser gave us hope… But it’s the hope that kills you - 3 missed penalties means the Wembley dream is over. We can’t grieve for long, huge 6 pointer with Astley at the weekend. Onwards |

Astley (a) 3 - 1 (ht.-) scorers : L. Bell, R. Hollinghurst, O. Jones MASSIVE WIN ON THE ROAD! Wow. Scenes. The lads put in a Herculean shift to see off Astley at their place, in a big six pointer of a game. After going behind early, the lads kept their composure and carved out some quality opportunities to take the lead into half time after goals from Liam Bell and Rob Hollinghurst in the first half took us into half time with the lead. Wouldn’t have been the case without a huge penalty save from our very own cat, Marshal who was once again OUTSTANDING. The second half was all about digging deep and holding what we had, before Oli Jones slotted home late on to make the last 5 minutes a little more comfortable. God bless those Saturday reds the win sees us shoot up the table and remain unbeaten (in 90 mins) in 2026. Huge momentum going into 2 more big away games the next 2 weeks. Onwards as always. Walmer Bridge (a) 0 - 2 (ht.-) scorers : - A tough loss to take, away at the league leaders. We come away feeling we were good value for something against a tough side, but a couple of off touches can be the difference in this league, resulting in swift breakaway goals for the hosts either side of half time. We had lots of pressure, worked their keeper and had some unbelievable quality into the box but couldn’t make it count. One thing the lads couldn’t be questioned on yesterday was ENERGY. To the final whistle, the league front runners knew they were in a contest. Proud of the application, on to training Tuesday with a free week next week, did somebody say gaffers day?
